Abstract. The aims of this study are: to identify the internal factors that
can increase the performance of agricultural extension, to assess the
influence of internal factors and the performance of agricultural extension
on the behavior of corn farmers, to assess the degree of relationship of
internal factors that can improve the performance of agricultural
extension in developing corn and farming assess the performance impact
of agricultural extension on changing behaviors of corn farmers.
Research conducted in Gorontalo Province in February-April 2010. The
study was "ex post facto". The smallest unit of observation is the
agricultural extension numbering 118 persons. Data collected through
interviews using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using LISREL 8.30
SEM program. The results showed a direct influence of variable
characteristics, competence, motivation and independence in the
performance of extension officers, agricultural extension with a
coefficient of determination (R2) of 0,74., the remaining 26% is another
effect beyond this study. Characteristics and independence of the
negative effect on the performance of extension officers, agricultural
extension, while the competence and motivation of extension agents have
positive influence on the actual performance of the agricultural extension
agent at α=0,05. Characteristics, competencies, motivation and
independence extension indirectly influence the behavior of corn farmers,
while the performance of the agricultural extension officers had a direct
impact on corn farmers' behavior amounted to 0.83 units. Degree of
relationship between variables of competence and independence,
agricultural extension, agricultural extension staff competence and
motivation, motivation and independence, agricultural extension,
agricultural extension effect on the actual performance at α=0,05. Affect
the performance of agricultural extension corn farmer behavior changes
with the R2 of 0,69., the remaining 31% is the influence of other variables
outside of this research.
