Analisis Degradasi Tutupan Lahan di Hutan Lindung Gunung Damar Provinsi Gorontalo

Abstract: In 1999 the Indonesian government established Gunung Damar Forest become protected forests through a forestry ministerial decree. It’s caused a lot of conflicts between local communities and local government as official’s authority. Many case studies showed that a local community has used the natural for food, fuel wood, construction material, hunting and settlement. The aims of this research are is to estimate the amount of forest degradationin Gunung Damar forest protected with GIS approach. Selection of sampling location was used by purposive sampling. Forest degradation data collected from landsat TM + ETM from 1999 until 2009. Socio-economic data collected from interview 240 head of households which is lived in 8 villages in and around the forest protected. The result of analysis showed the Gunung Damar protected forest in Gorontalo regency has been degraded by 3757,98 hectares or 49,75% while in Bone Bolango regency Gunung Damar protected forest has been degraded by 2452,89 hectares or 28,82%. The largest forest degradation in Gorontalo regency occur between 2004-2009 by 1792,85 hectares or 8,02%/years whereas in Bone Bolango occur between 2004-2009 by 1193,95 hectares or 4,11%/years The most influences factors forest degraded were socio economic variables on forest degradation settlement, shifting cultivation, illegal logging and illegal hunting.
