Abstract: The research objective is to examine the socio-economic conditions of households and the role of social capital to support food security of farmer households. This research was conducted on February until December 2009 used cross sectional study. The locations of this research are Cileles and Warunggunung Sub district, Lebak District, Banten Province. The sample taken as purposive each 50 families per village, so the total sample of 100 families. It was represent the agricultural laborers, small farmers (<0 data-blogger-escaped-.5=".5" data-blogger-escaped-and="and" data-blogger-escaped-big="big" data-blogger-escaped-farmers="farmers" data-blogger-escaped-ha="ha" data-blogger-escaped-medium="medium"> 1 ha). Data collected in the form of socio-economic characteristics data, social capital and household food security. Household food security is measured qualitatively through the perception of respondents. Pearson and Spearman correlation test is used to examine the relationship socioeconomic variables with food security. The results showed that 2.7% sample are food insecurity with hunger (FIH), 29.3% sample are food insecurity without hunger (FIWH) and 68.0% in a state of hold food (HF). The variable that negatively related to household food security of farmers is the number of household members, while variables are positively related to the area of land owned and household spending. Not all elements of social capital to work effectively in supporting household food security of farmers, only the economic and social networking elements. Thus the role of social capital in the study area is not maximized in supporting household food security of farmers
